2008 World Leadership Congress

The 2008 summer WLC is tentatively scheduled for July 25 - August 2 in Washington, DC.

All 500 ambassadors that will attend the WLC are:

1) U.S. sophomore students that first attended one of HOBY’s regional three- or four-day State Leadership Seminars that take place each spring or

2) Internationals between 15 and 17 years of age that first attended a local program in home country if one exists. To find out if a program exists near you, please email elkoussyn@hoby.org

To attend a U.S. State Leadership Seminar, sophomores with demonstrated leadership potential must be selected by their high schools. For international students, HOBY will accept 15 to 17 year olds with demonstrated leadership potential and a reasonable understanding of English. Some foreign students may require travel with a chaperone.

The WLC provides youth with training in leadership skills and capacity building. Youth are exposed to a distinguished cadre of leaders from various sectors in business, government, international affairs, science and technology, medicine, media, and education. The week is divided into educational sessions involving panel discussions with question and answer periods, interactive workshops, training exercises, focus groups, and individualized trainings. HOBY's student ambassadors leave the WLC more mature individuals, more aware of the world around them, and more empowered to make meaningful contributions to their communities. Alumni also acquire new friends from all around the world.

I believe every person is created as the steward of his or her own destiny with great power for a specific purpose, to share with others, through service, a reverence for life in a spirit of love.
